Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. ~ Helen Keller

Pinnacle, An American Management Services Company – a name that may be known to few, but a company that has become a true partner and friend to Lighthouse Central Florida.  The Maitland office of the largest property management firm in the US employs 120 central Floridians.  In the spirit of being good central Florida neighbors, Pinnacle began a grassroots effort about 10 years ago in order to learn a little more about the local community.  The intent was to raise awareness about the importance of giving back.

Following the example set by the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Denim Day, Pinnacle employees established a tradition of raising money one week out of each month for a selected charitable organization.  With a goal of raising $1000 per month, each employee could choose to dress casually for an entire week by contributing $10 to a fund which would support the chosen cause of the month.  Soon, the monthly event came to be known as “Cause-ual Week”. To date, Pinnacle has raised over $50,000.

Lighthouse has been the chosen beneficiary of two Cause-ual Weeks since 2009.  But, this is the beginning of the partnership that has developed.  Pinnacle has also supported Lighthouse’s Sight and Sole Walk and Fore Eyes Golf Tournament.  Pinnacle’s VP of Client Reporting, Sally Milton, has visited Lighthouse and taken the “In the Blink of an Eye” tour.  She plans to return with her management team.  In her words, "I have had the distinct privilege to work with Lighthouse Central Florida's Board Members, Executive Team, and Support Staff, and have been very impressed with everyone's passion and dedication to ensure that they make independent living a reality for our community's blind and sight-impaired individuals."

This year, when Lighthouse Central Florida began its new employment initiatives called “Lighthouse Works!”, Pinnacle was one of the first community partners to open it’s doors and consider hiring a sight impaired employee. In order to prepare the workplace, Pinnacle agreed to give Lighthouse complete access to their software systems, so that adaptive software could be prepared.  To help prepare the Pinnacle staff for the new experience of working with a sight-impaired person, Ms. Milton welcomed Lighthouse’s offer to provide Awareness Training.

Community partnerships are vitally important to our mission at Lighthouse Central Florida and we are privileged to have many.  These partners help assure that the clients of Lighthouse Central Florida, though sight impaired, do not live without vision.  Thank you, Pinnacle, for being such a partner.
