Envisioning our Future Capital Campaign

Lighthouse Central Florida is at an important crossroads in its history.  In January 2006, the board of directors decided to move boldly and prudently forward with vital renovations and expansion of the Lighthouse Central Florida facilities in College Park.  Swift action was deemed appropriate  because of the following factors:

• The rapidly increasing demand for services with projections showing future growth at an exponential pace
• The need to optimize an underdeveloped facility to meet the unique requirements of persons with low vision and blindness
• City deadlines to meet code requirements for the facility
• The availability of adjacent property to help meet those code demands (parking)
• Rising construction costs
• Capital underwriting from the Division of Blind Services
• Time-sensitive funds from a City of Orlando Community Development Block Grant

Lighthouse needs the support of the community to meet the additional financial demands of this critical undertaking.  We must raise $2,300,000 in the next few years. At the completion of this campaign, Lighthouse will own a facility conservatively worth three times the community’s investment.

Lighthouse Central Florida is the only resource in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and Sumter counties providing professional vision rehabilitation services to children, teens, adults and seniors with low vision or blindness.  Since 1976, Lighthouse has served more than 140,000 Central Floridians through direct rehabilitation services and education.   In a majority of cases, services are provided at no-cost to most individuals.

Lighthouse has a bold future.  We are confident that our initiatives today will enable us to provide the highest level of services to the low vision and blind individuals in our community….for decades to come.
